About HTN

The Healthy Transportation Network works with local communities to:

  1. Foster safer bicycle and pedestrian behaviors,
  2. Foster more walking and bicycling for routine transportation, and
  3. Create community and urban environments that are walkable and bicycle-friendly.

A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT

The Healthy Transportation Network is a project of California Active Communities in collaboration with the State & Local Injury Control Section of the California Department of Public Health; the California Bicycle Coalition; Local Government Commission; and the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy California Field Office.

RESEARCH CONDUCTED

Healthy Transportation Network partners have conducted and analyzed formative research with local elected officials statewide and are focusing project efforts on:

  • Providing training and educational resources to improve bicycling and walking safety;
  • Developing website resources that powerfully convey the health, transportation, environmental and economic benefits of walking and bicycling;
  • Providing technical assistance to communities to plan for and create safer walking and bicycling facilities.

If your community is engaged in planning or redevelopment efforts that impact bicyclists and pedestrians, the HTN website and project partners can be a great resource for you.

RESOURCES FOR YOU

The Healthy Transportation Network's web hub provides model case studies ("success stories") for local elected officials, staff and community members, as well as resources for land use planners and transportation engineers. The Healthy Transportation Network also hosts regional training sessions statewide to bring our expertise to diverse California communities.

OUR FUNDING

The Healthy Transportation Network is funded by the Federal Highway Administration's Federal Transportation Enhancement funds in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation and housed within the California Active Communities, a program of the California Department of Public Health.
